Would The Real John Kerry Please Stand Down?

Below in bold you will find an article that was posted on Newsmax.com

Kerry 'Flips Off' Vietnam Vet

Former Congressman John Leboutillier reports on a Memorial Day confrontation between Sen. John Kerry and a fellow Vietnam veteran:

Democratic senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.

Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, spotted Kerry and his Secret Service detail at about 9:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Wall. Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, "Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here."

At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about 6 feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN T-shirt.

Kerry then began talking to a group of schoolchildren. Sampley then showed the T-shirt to the children and said, "Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam."

Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly 'flashed the bird' at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, "Sampley is a felon!"

Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Sen. John McCain's chief aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley, whose father-in-law at that time was MIA in Laos, followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.

Sampley's group, Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, has garnered huge national attention and has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on MSNBC's "Scarborough Country." Tens of thousands of Vietnam vets have registered their opposition to Kerry through Sampley's group.

Clearly Sampley has gotten under Kerry's skin once again.

Does John Kerry even know who he is? He wants us all to believe he is qualified to serve as Commander in Chief of the worlds premier military yet he "flashed the bird" at a Veteran at the memorial? I mean honestly, he flipped off a Vietnam Veteran at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the most sacred of military holidays, Memorial Day.

Is this the kind of man you want leading the US military. What kind of morale, and devotion to duty can be expected of troops that will be forced to obey the orders of a man who desicrated the most sacred day in military recognition.

I used to think the problem with Kerry was that even he didn't know what he stands for. As time passes, I start to think that the problem is he knows exactly what he stands for and he is afraid the American people might get a glimpse of what he is truly about.

Spread the word!! Everyone deserves to know of events like this. Clearly this man is ill-equiped to be President.

Waffles must not get elected!!!

If this did indeed happen Kerry was clearly wrong but no more so than Ted Sampley. How does one man have the right to tell anyone they don't belong anywhere. The wall is there for everyone.I am sure that inspite of what the Kerry bashers may think, that Kerry lost friends in that war.We all did.I share a lot of Kerrys views. Not all of them but a lot of them.If Sampley had approached me in that manner I am sure I would have been upset.I hope I would have had a more dignified response but who knows.I hope I would simply have ask Sampley if that is what he fought for in Viet Nam.To preserve the rights of those in another country while trying to deny Americans their rights? It is more than apparent that the GOP will attack Kerry in any way possible.Could it be that Bush is running scared?People had better wake up before it is to late.Politicians are giving this country away. When all of the jobs are lost to other countries there will be no one state side that can afford to buy goods. When this happens we become a third world nation. Why drag our economic level down? Why not let them meet our standards?Every day more people lose good paying jobs and more people our without health care.Does it really have to be like this?It is a shame that the election process has become what it is.We don't vote for a qualified candidate. We vote for the lesser of two evils."W" has proven what he can do for this country...absolutely nothing except get good men killed, needlessly on a daily basis.Kerry may have his faults but at this time I would vote for my neighbor, who is a fry cook before I would vote for Bush.Even his own father is in disagreement with his politics. He said he would do things differently but that he taught his son to be his own man even if he didn't think he was handling his term in the right way.As a father I say that is abmirable,as a US citizen it makes me cringe. We have to get "W" out NOW!!!!!

As always, Dad, thanks for the comments, the insight and reading my ramblings. I do agree that this exchange should have went better on all sides. It was indecent for both men. I do however "cringe" at the thought that Kerry failed to recognize how high profile he is and whom was in his company. Is this how he will react in office when faced with something he doesn't like?

Oh and for the rest of my readers, only my pops will ever get away with writing a comment this size. I'd say he has earned the right. I would never alter the intent of a comment, but typically overly large comments will be shortened.

You know, Bob, I agree that both men were way out of line. I think Sampley's tactics were unacceptable, but that is no excuse for Kerry flipping the bird in front of a bunch of school kids there at the memorial on Memorial Day.

Yes, it showed a total lack of good taste and poor judgement. That kind of behavior is exactly what the oval office needs, I imagine some will say. Hardly.

What your son did not post about was the completely inappropriate display Kerry made at the dedication of the World War II Memorial the day before. Google that. An awful lot of those old men and women, all of them real heroes, were disgusted and disappointed in the behavior exhibited by him and his entourage, complete with private film crew.

But he's a War Hero. They weren't his medals. They were ribbons. It's not the same. He never falls. That Son of a Bitch secret service guy knocked him down on purpose. I have a Lincoln Navigator in Flint, Michigan. I don't own SUV's. They belong to my family, not me.

(If this is too long, feel free to edit.)

Which of Kerry's positions do you agree with Bob?
The one where he voted for the $85B before he voted against it? Or when he listed the gas guzzlers he owns in Flint Mi. before the UAW or when he told the Eviroweenies in Seattle Wa. that HE doesn't own an SUV (his FAMILY does).

Yes Kerry was in Vietnam...for the whole 4 months, where he placed his crew in danger by grounding his boat in a potentially hostile situation to execute a dying enemy?
Where he received three Purple Hearts for wounds that didn't require any real medical care, while SEAL units operating in the same area recieved a total of 4 Purple Hearts in a 16 month period?

Or the John Kerry that ADMITTED to HIS war crimes and painted all of his fellow soldiers in the field with the same black brush? Maybe Sampley was incorrect in his manner of approach, but the 50,000, who died in Vietnam and were later slandered by John Kerry may feel that he wasn't so far off the mark.

Maybe you like the John Kerry whose ENTIRE superior chain of command in Vietnam has termed him unfit to be CiC?
They are vets too, and I for one would question why ALL of them would be anti-Kerry if there weren't some basis for their statements?

You may disagree why we are in Iraq, but the statements made by the likes of Ted "swimmer" Kennedy and Nancy "red" Pelosi only serve to show their TOTAL lack of regard for the well being of our troops in the field. "By the company you keep, you shall be known".

Outsourcing? The facts show that there has been a net GAIN of three to one on those jobs....and Heinze Corp is one of those that outsource the most...so which is Kerry's position; "those companies that outsource are Benedict Arnolds" or "it's necessary for Heinze Corp to have those plants in an economically viable location to ensure continuation of the company"?

Sorry for the length SR. /end rant

BTW Bob, You might consider what Kerry's fellow vets at the time have to say about him:

Maybe you'll understand why his being at the Wall may be offensive to others that served with him.
