July 05, 2004Armed Mexican Troops Attempt To Deny A US Marine's Ceremonial BurialAccording to Fox News and SFGate.com 4 armed Mexican soldiers attempted to stop the ceremonial burial of a US Marine. A contingent of 7 Marines was participating in the funeral of Lance Cpl. Juan Lopez, who was killed in an ambush in Ramadi, west of Baghdad, on June 21. Hundreds of friends and relatives packed a small cemetery in SAN LUIS DE LA PAZ, Mexico for the funeral on Sunday of 22-year-old Marine, Cpl. Juan Lopez, who was born in this sun-scorched farming town, immigrated to Dalton, Ga., as a teenager and became a Marine. Four U.S. Marines marched solemnly to the grave carrying an American flag and the colors of the Marine Corps. Two of the men had rifles that looked real, but could not be fired, strapped to their backs. Four Armed Arrangements originally were made to give a traditional 21-gun salute during the ceremony in Lopez's hometown in Mexico. After much bantering between the Marines and the Fourteen armed soldiers?!? Oh that was a good idea (Spit Spit Spit). I understand fully why the I certainly hope that apologies from the Though Mexican born he was a US Marine! His true country, the United States will miss him and never would have dishonored him the way SlagleRock Out!

I agree this was a dishonor to Cpl. Lopez.I don't believe that was the intent.I do believe that this shows just how backwards our neighbors to the south really are. Just one more reason we should all realize how lucky we are.Lucky and honored to be citizens of this great nation. God Bless everyone and God Bless the U.S.A. Posted by: PappaSlagle at July 5, 2004 06:59 PMDon't underestimate Mexico's hatred for the U.S. They rooted for Saddam in the war. They chant "Osama, Osama" at U.S. soccer players. A popular T-shirt in Mexico depicts Osama as a hero. Posted by: James at July 5, 2004 09:48 PMI'm thinking that something went nasty wrong with After reading about the Mexican Military pulling
If so many of them want to work Ken Posted by: Kenneth at July 6, 2004 12:51 AMI graduated with Juan Lopez on May 25,2001. I was sad when I found out that he died thanks to bush. i just wish that if bush wants to protect his homeland that he would keep them in the usa and only deploy them if the other country asks for its help. Posted by: Thomas W Maguire at January 16, 2005 06:48 PMi think that who ever wrote this website is retarted and racist and if your wondering why mexicans hate americans so much its because this land is more theris than the americans. the indians were here first and the americans came and took over. Posted by: Andy at February 9, 2005 02:03 PMwho ever wrote this crap website is retated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Posted by: Eric at February 9, 2005 02:05 PM"Andy" and "Eric" you'll both be happy to know that I noticed your silly little comments and decided to write about them. Take no offense when I point out your numerous intellectual deficiencies. I am sure it is not “your fault” but likely the fault of some piss poor educational system. I hold no ill will of you for being upset and invite you to entertain my readers and I with your ignorance anytime you like. Let me tell you my point of view: Juan Lopez left Mexico by his own will and joined your Army, and he was killed in YOUR war, he was probably aiming to trade his permanent resident card for a green card, nothing wrong with that either. The ceremony the Marines wanted to perform should have been done at the last US soil the body touched prior to shipping the body to Mexico. The Mexican Army is extremely nationalist and protective of our homeland from Outside invasions, the idea that the US flag would wave higher than ours even on a ceremony of this nature could not be allowed. There are two types of people in Mexico, those who don't cut it and have to look for oportunities elsewhere and then there's the other 100 million of us, sticking it out. When you're done with Iraq and it's oil and start looking south of the border to invade another country, remember that your flag will never wave again in the Castillo de Chapultepec (your so called halls of Montezuma) so Kenneth, bite me. As far as I'm concerned Juan Lopez was your soldier and he died for your reasons. As for myself, I have no hate for US citizens (for I am american too, if you haven't noticed the bigass continent going from Canada ALL the way down to Tierra del Fuego) I merely feel sorry for the millions of US citizens that are too lazy to ever leave their own state, that don't travel to expand their horizons, learn about the other 50 thousand cultures of the world and believe their goverment when it tells them "we are the best, they hate us for our freedoms" crap. So keep watching your Superbowl and believe all the lies Bush tells you. Posted by: Saul at February 19, 2005 03:17 PMSaul, I do not know why you are so bitter. While I was a bit harsh I wasn't calling all Mexican people stupid, bad, or anything else. Only those who attempted to prevent the burial of this hero. You are right about one thing: The Mexican Army is extremely nationalist and protective of our homeland from Outside invasions, the idea that the US flag would wave higher than ours even on a ceremony of this nature could not be allowed. That is exactly how I feel about Old Glory. Our flag will never sit below the flag of another nation especially on our own soil. You patriotism is admirable, but if you think that, "As far as I'm concerned Juan Lopez was your soldier and he died for your reasons" we are proud to have him. I am sure you are right, he was most likely in the process of trading his Mexican citizenship for citizenship in the United States. If that is what he felt he needed to do you nor I should have any say in that. Remember, this post was merely about the dishonor afforded him by Mexican troops. SlagleRock Out!
