An Open Letter

Many of you may have seen some of this around the blogosphere. A letter from a SPC Joe Roche of the 1st armored division has set aflame thoughts and emotions about Michael (fat slob, communist, piece of shit, douche bag, waste of space, pansy, leftist, cock sucker...) Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11.

Many times we forget just how much impact there is in a kind word, or a brutal cinematic slap in the face. Michael Moron has done just that with his garbage, "documentary" (my ass) titled Fahrenheit 9/11. Moore attempts to convince his audience of a link between the Bush administration and the Bin Ladin family in Saudi Arabia. He even tries to convey the point that 9/11 was planned and was a way for the Bush family to make money. As SPC Roche pointed out his film is all garbage. Unfortunately I think that perhaps it is doing what that fat slob Michael Moore had hoped for. It is demoralizing good Americans. In a time of war, that is the last thing the troops need. The worst thing is that Hollywood and Morons like Moore either don't realize how damaging this film is or don't care.

Here is what I'd like to say to all of the brave men and women serving in harms way:

To my fellow compatriots, the brave men and women of the Department of Defense. Whether you are male or female, Seaman, Airman, Soldier or Marine you are without a doubt the finest human beings on the planet.

We (the US military collectively) have selflessly volunteered to serve this great nation and its just president. Everyday we put our lives on the line so that American's can enjoy their freedoms. We do a job that most couldn't handle. We have chosen a life of service that protects our great land and often intercedes to prevent injustices to nations that aren’t capable of defending themselves i.e. – Afghanistan, Iraq, France.

Throughout our relatively short history the United States has reshaped the face of the planet. At one time, socialist/communist governments were abound. Today very few exist. The great communist superpower, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics crumbled during the cold war. Europe as a whole has been spared enslavement by warmongers on more than one occasion largely due to the efforts of the United States. We have freed the people of Afghanistan and Iraq from brutal oppressive governments. Collectively the United States has ensured freedom for millions of people throughout the world.

Look but do not see the images that Michael Moore depicts. Listen but do not hear the words that his ACTORS speak. Pay no attention to the selective editing that he has so surreptitiously used to try and portray our great president as a money hungry warmonger. Michael Moore has an agenda. His views are shared by John Kerry and vice versa. Hollywood’s left is bent on ousting a good president and Kerry will ride their coattails if it can deliver the presidency.

We all know and understand what fiction is and Fahrenheit 9/11 is just that, fiction, not fact. It is merely one misguided mans opinion of events surrounding September 11, 2001. We all know more INTEL about the terrorists than Moore could ever hope to understand. We are on the inside we see the truth. We have heard the “thank-yous" from Iraqi fathers that will no longer have to worry about their daughter(s) being sent to one of Saddam’s rape camps. We know what we did in Iraq was just and simply put the right thing to do.

For all the officers and NCO's out there keep your young troops in the game. Don't let this garbage of Michael Moore’s disrupt moral or make a troop second-guess his involvement in the war with Iraq. These brave young men and woman are history makers. They are the ones that are molding the world and making it a better place for all of humanity.

My part in Operation Iraqi Freedom will forever be one of my proudest moments. No crooked politician, leftists media outlet or crackpot film producer will ever change my opinion of the President, these United States, our role in the Middle East, or my own personal involvement in the war.

Stay strong, stay safe, and most importantly be proud of who you are and the great nation you serve.

SlagleRock Out!

PS - If you'd like another opinion please take a look at what Mamamontezz has to say about this.

You have done a marvelous job with this letter. I will link here in just a bit to try to get it around as much as possible.

While I am here, I would like to add my sincere thanks to you for YOUR service. I am truly proud of you and the work you do. I feel honored that you chose to share your letter with me, too.

Please keep doing what you do here. You are needed more than ever now.

Excellent work, SlagleRock! You done a good job, sir, and I'm hoping that all these letters we've written are gathered together, printed out en masse, and sent to the folks that truly need the boost. Anyone want to coordinate that with me...?

Great job with the letter R. I feel better knowing that the majority of the DoD are like you, and won't be swayed by the garbage the Blimp from Flint is putting out.

Seditious, traitorous, socialist bastard, street justice is too good for him and his kind, the Goebbels of our time. Got to stay focused on sleaze like this and call them for what they are. The party of compassion didn't support the troops in Vietnam or any war since, but they'll gladly bask in the protection and security bought in blood by our fellow servicemen. Keep up the great work Slaglerock, and thank you for your service.

I have a question for John F. Kerry. Who died in your place, so you can live free?
I have a question for Michael Moore. Who died in your place so you can live free?

Posted by: Jack at August 1, 2004 08:20 PM

Awesome. I thank you everytime I talk to you for risking your life for me and for everyone. Unfortunately I don't believe that many other American's think the same way. I could never thank the countless people that do now and have done before something it takes the bravest of people to do. The unselfish act of giving ones life to protect the freedom of another is something that Moore and Kerry will never be willing to do. They are no more than Creatons! Neither of them would be willing to put their lives in harms way to save themself, nevermind people they have never met. They do what they do for money. The brave people do what they do everyday for other people. Thank you (all types of armed forces) for making sure that I have the freedom that I was born to have. Thank you for making the world a safer place one little chunk at a time. Thank you for making me feel safe. None of you will ever truly understand how very grateful the people of this country are to you. You are and always be TRUE AMERICAN HEROS! It just takes some people a little longer to understand that. THANK YOU!

I am an older reader in the South and do not even know anybody who will go see Moore's Fakumentary! I also actually remember Vietnam and the lesson we should have learned was to never give up for when we did two to three million Cambodians were slaughtered, something the Peaceniks like Kerry never talk about now because THAT was the result of their effort, they are responsible for that. We do NOT want to repeat that error ever again in Iraq or anywhere no matter what the liberals and anti-war minions say. Our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have performed at a level never before seen in history, they are just the best. I, for one, appreciate them each and every day for I have no doubt that we can fight the Islamists there or we can fight them here but we are going to HAVE do do so one way or another. Sooner is better before they grow more powerful. The troops are doing a fine and noble battle against a global jihad under extremely difficult circumstances of heat and shortage of numbers and doing it well. You guys are amazing and we love and appreciate each and every one of you and pray daily for your safety. I cannot imagine the hardship of heat, extended tours, etc. but know that your efforts ARE appreciated greatly and by literally everybody with whom I personally am friends. Do NOT be discouraged by the POLITICS of a few who are so lacking in class as to use our efforts in Iraq for political gain for they do NOT represent the vast majority of Americans at home who are behind you one hundred precent. You nailed it - every single person who is serving / has served should be incredibly proud of their contribution to this country. Your sacrifices allowing the rest of us to live safe in this great country.
You personally actually serve double-duty, military duty and blog duty. Thanks for both!!

Posted by: Barb at August 3, 2004 09:23 PM

The mere fact that Castro broadscast the Moore-on's propaganda on Cuban TV says all that needs to be said.
Thank you for this opportunity to let our heroes know how grateful I am.
I am English and have lived here for nearly five years, only a few more months until I will be able to pledge my allegiance to this great country as a bona fide American citizen.
When I take that pledge it will be not only to the Flag and the Republic, but too all of you service men and women, for you are the ones who make "liberty and justice for all" possible.
So thank you, and thank you to your families who have to manage without you while you are away.
Thank you and God Bless You.

To our Troops...

I have so much to say and don't have the words to say it.

My father is a member of the Greatest Generation--the men and women who won World War II. It's been my priviledge to know my parents and hundreds of their compatriots. They are what the USA is built on: brave, selfless, and almost maddeningly modest about their sacrifice. They are reluctant to tell stories of their heroism, and when they do they always sum up to say "Any of us would have done the same thing."

You--our military today--make me think of our WWII heroes. You carry yourselves with pride, you do a difficult and dangerous and important job with dedication, skill and restraint. You are compassionate, moral and just. I believe history will judge you in the same light as the incredible people who saved us and the world from Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan.

It's because of them--and you--that people like Michael Moore have the right to say and do the things they do. And I have the right to say Michael Moore is dead wrong. He is an amazingly talented filmmaker, and he also hates our President more than he cares about anything else. Almost everything he asserts in his movie has been proven wrong. It's not difficult to put together film clips in a way that makes a president look very bad, if that is your aim. Moore is not interested in the truth; he's interested in making our Commander in Chief look as bad as possible. He calls it a documentary, and pretends it's an objective look at what actually happened, and hopes people who don't pay close attention to the news will think it's accurate. It's not at all.

I also have a bias. I think you men and women are the best our country has. I think our President is the finest leader I've known in my lifetime--with the possible exception of Ronald Reagan. Last night I read George W Bush's nomination acceptance speech from 2000, and was moved by his sense of duty and his love of this country and the pride with which he spoke of our people, our military, our history, and what we stand for in the world.

It's my opinion that President Bush is not interested (not even slightly) in personal gain and lining the pockets of rich friends, as Mr Moore would have us believe. He's all about doing the best work for our people he can possibly do. After 9/11 he had very tough choices to make, including sending our brave soldiers into battle. He wishes he didn't have to, and he mourns every loss personally. And the job you are doing is the most important in 60 years, and he knows that better than any of his political opponents.

The man who is leading you today has his heart and his mind in the right place. Your mission is bigger than all of us, and more worthwhile than we have the capacity to comprehend.

I don't know how to say Thank You in a way that has you understand that "Thank You" barely hints at my level of gratitude. But I want you to know that you have the whole-hearted support of us back home. We want you back safe, and we want you back victorius. We want you back knowing you gave 50 million people a first chance at the kind of freedom we've had for 225 years, and they might never even thank you. We want you to know that the job you did makes us all safer, and that the people who want to kill us in large numbers and in horrific ways are being eliminated by your efforts and your bravery. And there will always be people who you are fighting for who just won't get it. What are you gonna do? It's a ridiculously free country after all, and it is so because of you.

So I say Thank You even as I acknowledge that "Thank You" doesn't quite cut it. But hopefully you get the idea. We respect, love, and admire you very much. Be as proud as you want to be; you've already earned it.

Dear Troops,

Thank you so much for what you are doing for us!!

There is a HUGE majority here in the U.S. who support you. Sometimes they're silent, but they're always there.

I am personally so grateful for what you all do that I can't really find the words for it. "Thank you!" is all I can say, but it's not nearly enough to express my feelings. I know most of you don't consider yourselves "heroes," but you're heroes to me because you do what I can't even imagine being able to do.--You help protect me and my family, and even the idiots out there who don't KNOW you're protecting them.

Don't listen to polls (very few of them are conducted responsibly/accurately), and don't pay attention to idiots like Michael Moore. I've read what others are writing to you, and I see that they express themselves better than I do on subject of irrational critics like Moore. Trust what these other writers say. It's the truth.

The great majority supports you, and President Bush has acted with the best of intentions and extraordinary vision. If he were truly the corrupt politician his enemies say he is, he wouldn't be risking his political future on war--which he most definitely is. He could have done what Clinton did in the 1990s--almost nothing--when we endured half a dozen terror attacks with no broad vision for our safety. Instead, GWB did what he was convinced was necessary to protect us all, even if it wasn't the best thing for him personally (he has been slandered in ways he couldn't have even imagined two years ago). Take great pride in what you are doing for your country, and rest assured you have been sent by a man worthy of your utmost respect.

And never forget, you are a doing a great and valuable thing. Hold your heads high! We love you very much!

Dear Trooper,

I write to you from the West Coast, where i sit amongst the most confused, self-indulgent, self-absorbed and these days, angry people in the United States. Yes, i'm just outside San Francisco, and i want you to know that there is a small family; parents aged 39, and daughter 12, who adore you and what you are doing to preserve our freedom and lay the groundwork for a more stable future for people who have not even been born yet.

I have no military experience, but if you could see my book collection, it is almost exclusively made up of books about the great tradition and military history of the United States. You are writing one of the most crucial chapters in our history, since never before has the threat been so insidious and with the potential to harm our homeland, yet leave no clear trail to those who perpetrated the horrific act.

All the crap you hear questioning your mission, and your Commander in Chief, is coming from people who are desperate and selfish and flailing. To take politics and the quest for power so far as to undermine an effort to defend this Great Nation by taking the battle to the enemy's soil is beyond my comprehension. But i'm just a silly Rube living amongst the truly enlightened inhabitants of cities like San Francisco, Berkeley and Santa Cruz.

I hear that after 9/11, there was a sign on a freeway offramp in Berkeley that said "You Are Now Leaving The United States". Please remember when you hear about the Michael Moores and the others who second guess and question either what you are doing, or how you are doing it, that they are more interested in their own conquest than yours. They will say anything and compromise any ethic to regain the power they feel is more appropriately wielded by them.

This does not change the fact that it is entirely likely that you already have disrupted the web of activity the enemies of America have spun. We keep hearing, on the one hand, how badly things are going over there, yet unfiltered reports from your Brothers in Arms suggest otherwise.

Sometimes I think my life is so perfect, in that i have a wife, a child, and a home and garden, that this is all a dream. But you guys are the ones who put the rubber to the road and ensure we here live in safety and ironically have the luxury to second guess and question the various military endeavours we embark on.

But once embarked upon, i feel it is the duty of all Americans to rally and support and pray for the best outcome possible. There are some really sick people here in the U.S., but as we all know, you're there protecting their right to be idiots, as well as my right to live unmolested in our homeland.

Please be safe. Please return home soon, but with unequivocal pride in what you're doing. Please remember that despite all the noise you're hearing, and conflicting messages and opinions, there are many many many more quiet people like myself who, dare i say, consider you heroes.

If you get the chance, please please write back to me and my family:

Christopher Martin
216 North San Mateo Dr.
San Mateo, CA 94401
USA

Please also send my respect and love to your buddies and anyone else in your unit who needs to be reminded who and what you are fighting for. In my mind this is no different nor less important than the island to island fighting in the Pacific in WWII or the effort to stem the tide on the Ho Chi Mihn trail. Each generation has it's own peculiar challenges and technology to meet those challenges. But the incredible spirit of the American Fighting Man or Woman is a constant.

I'll go back to my bubble of day to day life, but i will each day remember how challenging and difficult your daily grind is.

With the deepest respect,

Christopher Martin and Family

Dear soldier,

I address this to you not knowing where you are, or what your doing at the moment. I hope this letter finds you relaxing and enjoying a bit of peace.

I Don't know you, But you are in my heart and mind daily. I could never imagine in a million years what it must be like to stand like a stone wall and let the waves of hatred never reach us here at home. I want you to know that here at home, we know your sacrifice. We appreciate you, and love you all very much.

Come home quickly.

Dear Soldier:
Never forget that you, all of you, are true heros. And it's harder to be a hero now because so much of the "civilized" world has become complacent and spoiled and they have forgotten that their comfort and freedoms have never been free but have been fought for and won by hero's such as yourselves. DO NOT EVER let the spoiled, negative naysayers get to you, please. They will learn the truth soon enough. You are doing what has to be done - period. And you are doing it well. Someplace, sometime, your heroism and efforts will be rewarded - this life or next. And all aware, thinking people know these things -somewhere in their souls. You are better than the rest of us because you are doing what we cannot do.
God keep you, I love you all.

Dear Soldier,

I am writing from the heartland of America. Here, we are quietly supporting our nation and everything she stands for. Don't ever believe the crap that the Michael Moore's of the world say. Just because they talk louder doesn't mean they speak for us. We believe in you and your mission. We are extremely proud of what you have done in setting an entire nation free. We know, as the former Iraqi army knows, that when America sends soldiers to do a job, that job gets done. For every nutjob out there screaming "No blood for oil", there are millions of us here quietly raising our flags and praying for you, our heroes. God Bless you all, and God Bless America!

My TrackBack ping failed, but I have posted at Berkeley Square Blog.

Thanks for your service.

U.S. Armed Forces:

I cannot protect you protect you from munitions that you may encounter as you stand to protect our freedoms and share liberty’s blessings” with those overseas. Nor can I protect you from scattered fire from those who would try to turn back the clock on Iraq’s escape from tyranny. But I am confident that your strength, courage and training will pull you through.

I will attempt, instead, to protect you from the scurrilous lies spouted in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. And the sad irony that you are risking your life to protect the freedoms that he enjoys.

The film is popular in the United States, not because the war is unpopular – and certainly not because the troops are unpopular – but because there is a large group that strongly dislikes President Bush. This group doesn’t seem to care what is best for the country, or the people of Iraq, or anybody – as long as it reflects poorly on the President.

I want you to know that most Americans do not agree with this ridiculous film. Americans love our troops and are incredibly proud of the work you do. A handful of crazies believe whatever conspiracy comes their way, some want a Democrat President elected so badly that they’ll look the other way, and some naive people get caught up in Moore’s capacity to entertain and mislead. (It is unfortunate that he is very good at what he does – a couple of my friends told me I have to see it: “Yes, it’s all lies, they said but you’ll laugh your ass off!” I politely declined.)

Don’t let the (in this case extremely fat) bastards get you down folks. You are the best of the best. All the gifts I have are because of you and those that preceded you.

I know you’ll do your job well, I know you’ll make us proud every day. So I’ll just say stay safe, try and keep cool and come back safely.

Take care,

Some of the troops are wondering, I am certain, if America has forgotten them and why they are in Iraq. We at home go casually about our business of living day to day, going to work, seeing our children off to school, stopping at the local hamburger stand for a juicy hamburger.

Yet the American soldier has and is still making this all possible. Not just here at home but thousands of miles away in a God forsaken place, Iraq, trying to stabilize a country out of control, risking their lives to instill freedom and democracy to a people who have been severely brutalized.

The rest of the world with few exceptions, dare not risk their position and can only focus on what is in it for them, not trying to free a brutalized people.

We Americans are not like that, risking everything we hold dear so that other victims of despots and dictators can have the chance to enjoy the freedoms we do.

The American soldier is the true hero and always will be.

The common American will NEVER know what it is like to be called to duty and placed in peril to free an enslaved country.

There is no way we (the American people) can repay our soldiers for their sacrifices other than to honor them and pray for each one of them.

God Bless ALL of you.

Dear Warrior,

Whatever your creed, affiliation, race or gender is, you are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a person worthy of a song, saga or a novel. Your country, your people needed help in an hour of need. This is a grave hour. Strong undercurrents of history carried this world to this breaking point. Now the conflict is upon us once more. For millenia warriors stood on the battlements ready to give it all for their country, however big or small. It is your turn now. You volunteered to take upon yourself the burden of proving to our enemies that America will not be intimidated or cowed. That our prosperity and power are not ours by chance or a whim. That our nation is brave and strong. And we will not suffer those who wish and do us harm endlessly. You will do it. After you are done with them, there will be no doubt left. Be strong and just, merciless to the enemy and compassionate to the innocent. Your cause is just, the God is on your side and you will be victorious.

I'm not sure what planet they come from, but earth reality seems to elude them most of the time. You guys are our heroes; you're people we work beside, go to Little League games with, stand in line at the supermarket with. We know you and we trust you to do what's right. I'm praying for you all every day, that God will protect you both physically and emotionally during this difficult time. You are our family and we care about you all deeply. We wish you a safe return from harm's way and continue to wonder why we are so fortunate as to have the resources of men and women such as you defending us.

Dear soldiers
Over two years ago, I became an American by choice and made the U.S. my permanent home. It is a privilege and a blessing to have you guys and gals to be my defenders. On the home front, except for the occasional elevated terror alert, it is hard to notice that we are actually in the middle of a war and that some of our fellow citizens are facing the danger of hostile fire everyday at the other side of the globe. When I go about my business as usual over here, it is, however, hard for me not to think of you and your families. I can only imagine your longing to be home and how much your families miss you. But I also know that we need you where you are because you are doing an important job, not just for the present but also for the future of this nation and the world. I salute you for liberating 50 or so million people. I salute you for capturing and killing terrorists before they get a chance to hurt us. I salute you for rebuilding schools, hospitals, bridges, roads, and what not. I salute you for enduring heat and cold so we can have it comfortable here. I salute you for leaving your children behind so our children can have a safe and secure future. The risk *YOU* take is high, the reward *WE* reap is great. For that I can only say thank, the deepest, most sincere thanks. Please take very, very good care of yourself and your buddies. Come home safe and sound to your families. Godspeed.

Dear Service Members,

I was discharged honarably in 1999 after 12+ years of service in the Air Force. It keeps my heart warm to see the incredible men and women who are currently serving this great nation. Years from now we will be discussing in movies, documentaries, and T.V. specials, with great pride, the history you are making now.
Forget the naysers and the critics they always try to rewrite history, we know that. The Michael Moores of the world will even try to make money off of it, but a clear majority of Americans and your fellow veterans will NEVER allow your name and this noble cause to be stained.

Just know that we have not and will not forget you. Know that we respect and honor all of your hard work to keep our country free and safe. Know that we owe you a large debt of gratitude, one that will never be fully repaid. Know that the work you are doing now is incredibly important and it will decide what kind of world that our children will live in.

To those that are reading this that are not currently serving I make this challenge. Next time you see a military man or woman in an airport walk up and say thanks. If you see them in a restaurant buy them dinner. If you see them in a bar, buy them a beer. Let our men and women in uniform know that we respect them and that we our thankful for their sacrifices.
To all of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. Remember our cause is just. Our enemy is terrorism while the terrorist's enemy is freedom.

Thanks for all you do,

Freedom...only those who have fought for it, truly understand it. I am so thankful that there are men and women with the courage to defend our freedom and realize that the terriorist have to be dealt with immediately and fiercly. Our news media, seems to have lost their minds...deal with these people as you see fit. How dare our government try to tell the military how to deal with these crazed individuals that have no concern for life in general and hate Americans.

Come home safe and whole in body and mind, in the knowledge that you have done a hard and necessary job, for which we as individuals and as a nation owe you an enormous debt. We anxiously await the opportunity to repay that debt.

Dear Soldier,

Thank you for protecting my freedoms. Thank you for making the world a better place for my son to grow up in. Thank you for serving to protect our great country and for making the sacrafices necessary to be able to do so.

I hope when you are reading this, you are having some peaceful moments and that you also hear from your loved ones often.

My husband and I are already trying to teach our son to have great respect for our service men and women - because you make our country possible.

Thank you. I hope that you get to return home, safe and sound soon.

To our military men and women-

No matter how dire the circumstance, know in your heart and in your head, that I and my friends and family here at home, do not miss a day of prayer for your safety. We want you home almost as badly as you want to return. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your choice to serve us, no matter when and where you are called.

There is no such thing as a war fully supported by everyone, no matter what side of the conflict we talk about. Listen to US as we tell you we are behind you. Listen to US as we tell you we are thankful and proud of your courage and determination to put your skills and training to work. Listen to US as we send out small words meant to help heal big hurt. Listen to US, as we send a hug through the miles when you are down.

Do not listen to the negativity of the whiners and those who's bravest act is to write a letter to their local paper in protest, from the comfort of their home which they will never realize they have only because of the efforts of men and women like yourselves. There will be a time, for all the wrongs to be righted. Hold your heads high, and know that we stand strong and unyeilding here at home waiting for you to return.

Dear Troops,

I'm a 19 year old college student who voted for the first time in this election. It was an incredible feeling being able to do it and I know that, without people like you, it wouldn't have been possible.

We're proud of you guys, each and every one of you.

Keep safe.

As a former DAV from the Nam eara, I stand shoulder to shoulder and heart to heart with every man and woman fighting against the evil that is fulminated within ISLAM. It is, after careful study and evaluation, a purely satanicly inspired "religion", which the God of Heaven will bring to nought! Fight On incessantly and without fear, for your cause is right and just, and know that we of the True Faith, Christianity, are praying fervently for your success and safety!

God Bless each and every one of you!
