The Near Loss Of One Of Our Own

I received an email today that saddened me a bit. Security Forces almost lost one of our own. A Senior Airman, whom I won't name out of respect for his privacy, almost lost his life in Iraq.

The Air Force Cop was standing only 10-20 feet away from a mortar impact. After being evacuated to Germany he has finally made his way back to the states where he has undergone several surgeries at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

His condition is currently listed as fair after the "successful" amputation of his right hand and both legs above the knee.

My thoughts are with his family. I hope his recovery is speedy and his adaptation to his new life goes well.

At only 22 years old he paid the ultimate price (short of death) for his country. True patriots will be forever indebted to this young man and the many men and women of the armed forces who live every day in harms way to better secure our nation and the world.

Please extend my families deepest sympathy, respect and admiration to this young man, he has suffered a terrible loss at such a young age. May God bless and heal him and watch over him and his family during this tragic time. I only hope that the rest of America can embrace and support the troops that sacrifice so much for us.

Hey brother,
It is never good to hear that one of ours has been hit. It is good to know that he has the best in the world to take care of him. I wish him a speedy recovery, and the support of his fellow airmen, should he or his family ever need anything.

It hurts everytime I hear of news such as this. I must admit that as a former Airman and Security Policeman this one may hurt a little more. This brave Airman, as well as all of the others, shall remain in my prayers.

God bless them all and God bless America.

I'm indeed grieved to hear this news. Please convey my respects and thanks (as inadequate as they may seem under the circumstances), as well as that of my family, to this Airman and his family. And let him know that we are remembering him in our prayers.

Aww jeeze .. my prayers are with this brave man and his family. I am literally sleepless some nights over the thousands of our men who have lost limbs and sight in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only their limbs have been taken from them but their lives as they knew them. May God watch over them and may we figure out how to end this horror in Iraq quickly.
