Don't be a fool and die for your country. Let the other sonofabitch die for his. -- General George S. Patton

November 15, 2004Secretary Of State No MoreWASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Monday he was resigning, and two senior administration officials told CNN that national security adviser Condoleezza Rice is President Bush's choice to replace him. In a letter dated Friday, Powell told Bush that, "now that the election is over the time has come for me to step down as secretary of state and return to private life. I, therefore, resign as the 65th secretary of state, effective at your pleasure." Well, what do we think of these changes? Just the facts: Gen. Colin Powell was a fantastic military officer and leader. Condoleeze Rice is qualified for the position and has potential. Beyond that we will just have to see. I don't have too large an opinion on these changes. Before the left starts screaming that Powell quit because of President Bush, just bare in mind that he always said he was a, "one term man." I expect there will be many more changes in the Presidents cabinet postions. I personally feel change is good. Time will tell. SlagleRock Out! Comments
I think Powell has served this country well and by his own admission is a one term man. Condi Rice, if picked will do well, she is tough and that's what is needed in the job. Golda Meir was tough too and led her country through some tough times with the same enemies. Time will tell if GWB picks the right replacement. Posted by: Jack at November 15, 2004 06:58 PMChanges like this are not at all uncommon in a second term, so I'm not shocked or worried about it. As far as Condi Rice - I think she'll do a great job. I will miss Powell being in there as I admire him greatly, but Rice is a good choice for replacement, I think. She has a lot of experience, and she's as smart as they come.
