I don't recall our media mentioning that $6 million was paid to the terrorists as well as withdrawing troops from Iraq, The Philipines seem to have gone to hell since Aquino took office, President Arroyo is ensuring that it is still sliding into the abyss. Malaysia supposedly put up $5 million while the Philipines put up $1 million. The Philipines have always had problems with either comminists or muslims trying to take over their government.

IMHO this has become a very dangerous trend. From what I've read (and it is NOT added in the news articles) many countries and companies are indeed paying huge ransoms to get their people back - in addition to pulling troops or companies leaving Iraq. This is devestating in that those people are now financing the terrorists! Here the US is, trying to get the countries of the world to crack down on the flow of money to terrorists through banks, charities, etc. and then they turn around and *pay* millions for a hostage. Aarrgh!
