This whole Cambodia debacle is an attempt to discredit the Nixon administration and give credence to Kerry's mythical excursion into Cambodia. First off Nixon wasn't in office during the time frame in question, If Kerry went to Cambodia, he must have been on R&R with his NVA buddies.

But this was not just a fun a fanciful story. His testifying in front of the Senate in 1989 WAS a big deal. He maligned our military with his lies. And in the telling of the story about being in Cambodia, he was offering himself up as a piece of evidence of the U.S. involvement in illegal activities. That IS a bid deal.
