October 01, 2004Make Your Vote CountTo all of my Military readers this post was written specifically for you. Due to the length of this article I have moved the bulk of it (all of the important links) to the Extended Entry. If you need to know how to procure an absentee ballot or register to vote please click on Continue Reading.... **NOTE** This post will remain at the top of my blog until the election is over. Please look below, for all current entries. Note (1 Oct 04) Due to demand from my readers I have altered the date of this post. It will slowly creep down the list so that my most recent entries are on top of my site. SlagleRock Out! During the 2000 election the Democratic party did everything it could to ensure that military absentee ballots would not count. They tried to force recounts and block absentee ballots. They fought when several states extended the deadline to have military ballots in to ensure that all votes would count. The dirty Dems get an "A" for effort and an "F" for patriotism. What in the world would motivate a political party to decapitate the heads of the very people who protect the nation the so-called politicians "serve"? Now, I may be a bit biased with this one, but I truly believe that the men and woman of the armed forces have more of a right to vote than any other demographic. With that being said, this post will remain as the top post at the Slaughterhouse until the deadline for military absentee ballots has come and gone, bear in mind for most states that is either the day before or the day of the General Election wich is November 2, 2004. Here are the resources that men and woman from all branches of service will need to ensure their voice is heard. There is no doubt that it was the military that helped push Bush over the top in 2000. Make sure to get your ballot in as soon as possible. DO NOT wait until the last minute. For state-by-state voting deadlines and calendar CLICK HERE Military voting information: Obtaining Voting Materials Thanks for the links Jack, I am sure the men and women of the armed forces will be grateful. Speaking of the elections. Did you see where Bush did a flip flop on the Today show. On the Aug.30th show when Bush was asked if we could win the war on terrorism, his response was "I don't believe we can win". This from the same president who has assured us of victory for months. I've said all along that this is a war that can not be won. I guess "W" has finally realized, that even though he is SuperPrez we can't beat them.Maybe he is just guilty of a little waffleing of his own! Posted by: PappaSlagle at August 30, 2004 07:05 PMI stand corrected. What Bush actually said was "I don't think you can win it." I guess that way he'll have everyone else to blame when we fail. That is better than standing up and taking the heat for your own bad decisions. Posted by: PappaSlagle at August 30, 2004 07:16 PMBush Misspoke in that interview....he reaffirmed what he meant the next day, when he stated that "you won't see a table where an armistace is signed between the warring parties", but that we WILL defeat the enemy;and that it would take longer than just this next term to do it. Bush is, sadly, not the articulate speaker that someone like Reagan was. Judge him by his actions; his perseverance in conducting the war on terror, not a single misstatement. Posted by: delftsman3 at September 1, 2004 10:35 AM"I guess that way he'll have everyone else to blame when we fail." The big mouth playing the blame game is John F'n Kerry. With his pert little mug hanging in the Viet Nam war museum in the section of the Anti-War movement they have there. His true victory was in Viet Nam where he can blame everyone else. http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Camp/7624/Generals/giap.htm Born: 1912 Vietnam War: Gen. Giap planned and directed the military operations against the French that culminated in their defeat at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. During the 1960's Giap controlled guerrilla operations against South Vietnam and the United States and planned the Tet Offensive of 1968. In his book, Giap clearly indicated that NVA troops were without sufficient supplies, and had been continually defeated time and again. By 1968, NVA morale was at it's lowest point ever. The plans for "Tet" '68 was their last desperate attempt to achieve a success, in an effort to boost the NVA morale. When it was over, General Giap and the NVA viewed the Tet '68 offensive as a failure, they were on their knees and had prepared to negotiate a surrender. At that time, there were fewer than 10,000 U.S. casualties, the Vietnam War was about to end, as the NVA was prepared to accept their defeat. Then, they heard Walter Cronkite (former CBS News anchor and correspondent) on TV proclaiming the success of the Tet '68 offensive by the communist NVA. They were completely and totally amazed at hearing that the US Embassy had been overrun. In reality, The NVA had not gained access to the Embassy--there were some VC who had been killed on the grassy lawn, but they hadn't gained access. Further reports indicated the riots and protesting on the streets of America. According to Giap, these distorted reports were inspirational to the NVA. They changed their plans from a negotiated surrender and decided instead, they only needed to persevere for one more hour, day, week, month, eventually the protesters in American would help them to achieve a victory they knew they could not win on the battlefield. (emphisis is mine, M) Aid and comfort to an enemy...hmmm, there aught to be a law. Excellent comments Mikenchi. Good references. Clearly Kerry is guilty of more than one offense. Unfortunately we live in a day and age where the naive American public can overlook laws and regulations if they disagree with them. Kerry should be in Jail or dead. SlagleRock Out! Posted by: SlagleRock at September 2, 2004 09:47 AMThe War in Viet Nam was lost the minute we invaded their country. We should have learned form the French but we didn't. The same is true in Iraq. Bush didn't misspeak. For the first time he told the American public the truth and back pedaled very quickly when his advisors told him what a schleprock he is.Not only is he not articulate,he is also stupid. I believe these elections will be decided by debates and then he will show his true strength. That is if anyone listening speaks the same language that he does.It sure as Hell isn't english!! Posted by: PappaSlagle at September 2, 2004 05:16 PMNot So! So you see PappaSlagle, Kerry has given some of us more then enough reason to shitcan Kerry. Not only is he not articulate,he is also stupid. What would you do if America was attacked on the heels of a new and struggling administration? Would you ask for the U.N. to help? Not just any bombing or hostage situation, but the murder of 3000+ Americans on a bright sunny day just eight months into a political maelstrom of dot-com IPOs that set the markets into a tumble. Would you do better then he did, just on those few points? Are you smarter then he because you have the advantage of hindsight? I think your a sore loser. Get over it. Posted by: Mikenchi at September 3, 2004 07:48 PMI suggest that all military voters hand carry their ballot to their postal clerk where possible and make sure that they get a legible postmark on the envelope. This is one of the ways the Dems' hit squads were able to nullify military ballots in 2000; illegible postmarks. I realize that everybody can't do the hand carry thing so perhaps a word to a senior NCO would suffice in making sure that the postmarks are legible. Cross all the t's and dot all the i's because they're already gearing up to do the same thing again this year. Posted by: StinKerr at September 4, 2004 05:57 PMNo,I'm not a sore loser.Mainly because I haven't lost anything.Bush has given many of us many reasons to shitcan him. A record number of children without healthcare,a steady reduction in real earnings,a potential loss of overtime pay for most Americans who are making between 26 and 100 thousand dollars per year,a continuing loss of American jobs overseas, and the list goes on.If MORONS like yourself have their way and put "W" back in office we will all be losers!! The gap between the haves and the have nots continues to widen.Bush is doing his best to make sure this happens.I want more for my loved ones than the promise of destitution in a third world nation. As the federal deficit grows because of this man,how will we pay it off? Through increased taxes or on the backs of our children and grandchildren? Apparently I care more for my loved ones and my country than you do. This will probably be my last comment, because as you stated I have the advantage of hindsight. My hindsight tells me that there is no since in trying to persuade the ignorant. I will once again state that Bush is a threat to our great nation and must not be re-elected. Lets vote the son of a Bush out,An dissappointed registered republican. Posted by: PappaSlagle at September 4, 2004 08:20 PMDad, In an earlier post you made this statement: Your Great Grandfather was a Republican precinct committee man for over forty years. His son your Grandfather and my Father is a life long republican. He has stated that he will not vote for George W. Bush again and he is actually cursing the party now. I spoke with my Grandfather, your Father this morning. He told me that I need to convince you not to vote for John Kerry. He said, "I am not to particularly fond of George Bush." So, I asked him who he was going to vote for and he said, "I wouldn't vote for John Kerry if he was the only person running. That horse faced son of a bitch is nothing but a F*cking liar. Let's see what your Father has to say about Kerry if he gets elected." Doesn't sound to much like he is pro Kerry to me? SlagleRock Out! And to be perfectly honest I value dearly the opinions of all of the Roberts before me! Yours most of all. I just can't handle Kerry's lies. Posted by: SlagleRock at September 5, 2004 01:20 PMI never said that your G-Pa was going to vote for Kerry.I said that he told me that he wouldn't vote for Bush.He told me that he guesses that he will have to vote for Nader, and that says it all. It says he will not vote Republican and that has to be a tough decision. It looks as though he sees this administration for what it is.He called the GOP headquarters here to see if he and G-ma would qualify for absentee ballots, for health and age reasons. He said "Those dirty sons of bitches didn't even call me back.So they can just kiss my F**king ass!" Like I said before.I'm not thrilled with Kerry but I've seen how badly Bush has screwed this country up.I think it is time to give someone else, anyone else a chance to make things better. The only area that Bush has been half decent at is the military.Even there he has been weak.He sent troops into Iraq without any real plans and against the advise of his senior military advisors. I realize you are active military but someday you will be a veteran and Bush is already attacking veterans benefits. This is what makes this country so great. We all have the right to form our own opinions and make our own decisions. Well, have fun at the in-laws. Well, I see by your last comment that it wasn't your last comment. Is that why you emailed me, too? If you debate or argue your position having the last word still doesn't articulate a reasoned proof of correctness. You toss out figures and give no proof or links to verify the accuracy of your claims. 'Bush Sucks', would have saved you a lot of bloviating and typing on your Union/DNC talking points. "BUSH SUCKS!, so don't be a moron like that other guy. Vote for John Fonda Kerry before there's a 50% fed tax no one can pay!!" [/sarcasm] PapaSlagle said: Employement when Bush(43) took office in 2001---135,999,000----ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/news.release/History/empsit.02022001.news That would be a nearly 3.7M job increase. We have unions to help protect workers from overwork and are you saying we should demand over time? Oh yeah, don't post an answer ya' crusty ol' curmudgeon. I'm just here to refute your misinformation for the other readers of this blog. It looks like somebody is drinking the Kool-Aid. First: Spending on Veteran's benefits is at an historic high. Never has so much money been put into Veteran's programs. Yes, it is true that the increases were cut but the fact remains that spending was still increased to record levels. The only people who were affected by the cuts were guys like me: Honorable discharge, no service connected disbilities, no combat and annualy earning above a sum I don't immediately recall. We're known as Category 8. We have no reason to be looking for bennies anyway. Second: The changes in overtime actually provides overtime to low wage people who weren't getting it before because of classification loopholes. MacJobs could call you an assistant manager and keep you from getting overtime, now they can't. The ones who are losing it are executive types making well over $100,000/yr. It's hard for me to feel sorry for them. To be honest I was caught up in the lie that Vet's benefits had been cut and I was pretty angry about it. Then I looked into the matter some more and found that the Dems were lying about it and twisting the fact that the increases had been reduced into the statement that benefits had been cut. I won't be fooled again. I check out all statements like that. Especially if it's coming from a partisan hack of either party. Posted by: StinKerr at September 8, 2004 07:46 AMI fit right under the wire for catagory 5 of nonservice related disability (heart patient). Income is low enough and I'm one and a half months into the last of the qualified Viet Nam era veterans which ended May 30, 1975. I've had over $200,000.00 worth of work done on me at the VA hospital in Hines, ILL. I'd be dead right now if not for that. So I quess I'm just a teensy-bit biased in their favor. The VAH is the single largest hospital group in the world. It has had many internal problems but, even those were self correcting. Like all government agencys though, they take a long time to get your treatment squared away. There are 25 Million+ living vets and over two thirds of them are over the age of fifty. That makes the VAH indespensible as a training facility for the geriatric doctors needed for the baby boomer crunch to come in ten to fifteen years from now. Name another country where you can get an organ transplant through a veteran hospital or program for veterans. Posted by: Mikenchi at September 8, 2004 03:47 PMLooks to me like Jack and PappaSlagle need blogs so more people see what they have to say. Make sure they know they can get free ones at www.blogger.com, then email me so I can blogroll them. If you and I and Lila and Bert all post "Go meet these guys" posts they won't be writing for just the 4 of us very long. I'm glad to see you added the note about new stuff below this post. Posted by: Bill Faith at September 12, 2004 10:51 PMPappa Slagle had a blog at I Don't Do Blogs under my Blog Family heading. He did a few posts, but it fizzled. SOooooo, Mamamontezz and I hijacked said blog and turned it into a place for us to post letters of support for the troops. As for Jack, he doesn't want a blog, he is content to provide other bloggers with great information. I for one am grateful for this. Jack finds some of the best information and the best links.
